William Lee Woodie, a 60 year resident of Manhattan Beach, passed away on Monday, June 2, 2008 of colon-liver cancer at the age of 63. Loved and respected by his whole family, his favorite quote of solace before he passed was Ram Dass' " Don't worry, dying is perfectly natural."
Born in Cleveland, Ohio, he attempted to avoid the trappings of modern society and tried to better himself. He tried to treat every person he met with dignity and respect. His refuge from the so called 'rat race' was to spend periods of time in a simple desert cabin located in Red Rock Canyon. He is survived by his loving wife, Cristina Switzer, son Alexander Irish Woodie, daughter Elizabeth Celia Lowgren, grandson Jonathan Woodie, and brother Kermit Dean Woodie.
A memorial service will be officiated by Chaplain Zack Schoening, and held at White & Day Manhattan Beach Chapel on Saturday, June 14, 2008 at 1:00 P.M. A reception will follow in White & Day's Lighthouse Reception Room from 2:00 P.M. until 4:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to NRDC on his behalf, in defense of America's endangered wildlife and wilderness at 40 West 20th St., NY, NY 10011.
