Barbara Toski

Barbara Jean Moen Toski passed away peacefully Friday, May 2, 2014 at the Grand Traverse Pavillions in Traverse City, MI. Born November 5, 1929 in Fenton, Michigan to Gerhard H. Moen and Edna M. Whitney.

Barbara was raised in the Pontiac area. She graduated from Pontiac High School, earned her teaching degree at the County Normal School in Frankfort, Mi and taught in a one room school house in Davisburg, Mi. She married the love of her life, John W.Toski on August 16, 1952 and together they lovingly raised their five children in Rochester. Barbara and John were active in their church, golf leagues, the Rochester Women's Club Emeritus group, and volunteered in the community. After their children were raised, Barbara worked as a home care worker specializing in personal care until John's retirement. They later moved to Barbara's parents' home on Green Lake in Interlochen. Barbara was an active member of the Interlochen Women's Club and cherished her many friendships. Barbara and John traveled extensively around the world and wintered in Arizona near family and friends from Michigan. In recent years , Barbara was diagnosed with Alzheimer's and was taken care by her faithful, loving husband, attending to her every day with deep devotion until his death August 6, 2012.

Barb and John were a wonderful, loving couple who enjoyed entertaining their family and friends. The door to their home was always open. They were always generous and supportive and they brightened many a day. Many happy occasions were celebrated at their home on Green Lake including family birthdays, graduations, and weddings. They truly loved and enjoyed their family and friends. They will be missed but they are together again.

Barbara is survived by her daughters, Alyce Johnine "A.J" Reamer (Greg), Geri Ann Toski-Beeman (Duane) and Mary Jo Pomeroy, twin sons, David (Tina Larsen) and Paul (Chris) Toski; grandchildren, Greg (Elisha) Robinson, Amy (Patrick) O'Neill, Elizabeth (Chris) Robinson-Pico, Patricia Lorenzen-Miller (Chris) and Cory Lorenzen. Casey, Alissa and Anna Beeman. Daniel and Andrew Tollzien( Kayla Cousino), Rachel and Alex Pomeroy and Trevor Toski, great-grandchildren, Kylie and Keenan O'Neill, Grace, Samuel, Isaac and Zoe

Robinson and Lilia, Maya and Ellisyn Miller, a wonderful extended family and caring friends. Barbara was preceded in death by her husband John W. Toski, her parents, brother Bob Moen, and sons-in-law John W. Pomeroy and Terre Lorenzen.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, May 12, 2014 at 11am at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Traverse City. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association. Burial to be held at a later date. Arrangements were handled by Covell Funeral Home. Barbara's family would like to thank the staff on Elm in the Grand Traverse Pavillions who took wonderful, loving care of her all the years.
