Evelyn Adele Settle Cerutti, age 94, of Traverse City and Elk Rapids,
passed away January 14, 2015 at Willow Cottage with her family at her side.
Evelyn was born in Detroit, MI on January 15, 1920 to the late Ben and Doris Settle. When Evelyn was nine years old she met a neighborhood boy of eleven years named Vincent Cerutti who would remain her sweetheart for life, become her husband, and together they would raise five children.
To aid the wartime effort at home Evelyn work at Selfridge Air Base in Mount Clemens, MI while Vincent Cerutti was deployed to the Pacific during World War II. Following WWII, Evelyn was a busy wife and mother. Once her own children were in school, Evelyn went to work for the Lutheran Social Services of Detroit. Evelyn and Vincent fostered over 51 children, almost all under one year of age, in their home.
Later in life, Evelyn and Vincent worked as volunteers at Bon SeCours Hospital in Grosse Pointe. Evelyn also worked as a volunteer for the Children’s Home of Detroit.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her loving husband of 70 years, Vincent. She is survived by her children, Vincent Cerutti Jr. of Ann Arbor, retired Major USA Stephen (Lee) Cerutti of Pine Grove, Pa., Carol (Don) Schwab of Dexter, Ky., Christine (Paul) Sevald of Kalkaska, Mi., Ellen (Pat Maher) Cerutti of Traverse City, Mi.; grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A private family service is planned.
