

John D. Marsh Sr. 80, of Traverse City and formerly of Mio died at his home on Saturday April 24, 2010 surrounded by his loving family. John was born in Flint on November 19, 1929, the son of Donald and Millie (Anderson) Marsh. He was employed by Oven Fresh Bakery for 34 years, where he was given the nicknames of ”Johnny the bread Man or Baker Boy.” John enjoyed fishing, hunting, working in his yard and doing lots of projects around the house. He was known to his friends as Johnny on the spot as he was always willing to help. John is survived by his five children; Charlie (Debbie) Marsh, Conni (Gene) Elliott, Jeannine (John) Manville, Brenda (Ted) Edmonds, and John Jr. “Fritz” (Denice) Marsh, seven grandchildren; Misha Green, Chad Elliott, Lisa Wilkins, David Edmonds, Jennifer Marsh, Nicole Wazny, and Trevor Marsh, and five great-grandchildren; Ryan, Bryn, Lilly, Trenton, Dillon, and soon to be Tyler, one brother Kenneth Marsh, two sisters, Doris Popps, and Joanne Carlson, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parent\s, wife of 43 years Wilhelmina “Billie”, his long time companion Carolyn Hedlund, his brother Don Marsh, and two sisters, Edith Marsh, and Frances Keenan. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday April 28, 2010 at 11am from Covell Funeral Home, 232 E. State St., Traverse City., with Pastor Mike Wermuth officiating. Visitation will take place on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the Funeral Home. Burial will take place in Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens.
