It's been six, nearly seven years and I am still thinking of you. I wish that you would have been able to get everything in your life perfect. I wish death could have waited for you, given you some years to relax and retire. Hopefully, you are able to do so now. You are missed so dearly by so many, don't you think we'll ever forget you down here. Wherever you may or may not be, I write this with many wishes for all who knew and loved you, and for you yourself. I hope we can all take a lesson from your strength and kindness to make this world a better place, and to possibly make you proud.

Grandma Loo was my best friend. She always spoiled me when we came to visit, and we would bake chocolate cake. She always worked so hard, but would take time to spend with the family and I. We would drive around, go to the mall, and we would play and sing. Just like anyone else who has met her, and especially as her granddaughter, I will miss her so much. She always gave so much and never asked for anything in return. Now, it’s our turn to give and realize that we must be positive, no matter what.

Oh Bob, I just heard something on the news about you wife, Laurie. My dear friend, you have my deepest sympathy. Sorry I have lost touch since I retired. My heart goes out to you.

Our deepest sympathies to Bob and family as well as those who worked with Laurie at Raven's Child. Whether we lived in Grand Rapids, MI; Vicksburg, MS; or Sioux Falls, SD, Laurie always welcomed us "home" when we came to TC. Her wonderful personality, warm heart, contagious laugh, and interesting conversation while in Brenda's favorite boutique are some of our fondest memories of TC, now our permanent home. She is and will be missed.

I can only echo the other notes in saying that Laurie was a very kind and warm person. We enjoyed shopping in the store and chatting with her, as well as talking about sewing. She will be missed!

I met Laurie when she first opened Raven's Child and continued to be a customer through the years.  She was such a wonderful lady who always made me feel welcomed the moment I stepped into her store.  I will greatly miss her and her warm smile!

The first time I met Laurie was in her Cadillac Raven Child. When the store closed, I was sad because Laurie was friendly, loving, and kind hearted. The reason to visit her boutique was more than shopping. Her uplifting spirit and warm hearted nature kept me coming back. For the past 15 yrs or more I have made the trip to Traverse City frequently. Laurie always remembered me. My prayers to your family will be for peace and comfort. May you all find strength in your thoughts and memories that you hold close to your heart.

I met Laurie 25 years ago and have been shopping at Raven's Child ever since. One evening my husband and I walked by her shop to say "Hi" to Laurie to find it closed. Laurie saw us peeking through the window and opened the shop way past closing time. Her shop and personal touch was one of a kind. She was a beautiful person with a great sense of humor. She loved life and enjoyed chatting about her grandchildren. She was a dear friend that will be missed by many. She left a down town legacy!

I first met Laurie in a parent/teacher relationship, and always enjoyed each contact with her.  Later, at her shop, I felt...as many others have said...like we were friends.  Mindy and Betsy, I am so sorry...she truly was an amazing woman.

We first met Laurie when we bought a sofa from her at Town & Country Furniture.  Since then, Mother-of-the-Bride dresses, a daughter's wedding dress, and this year, another generation's prom dress!  You could always count on (and welcome) her honest opinions!!  We are so blessed to have been acquainted with such a sweet, welcoming, wonderful lady, and will miss her dearly!!

Thoughts, prayers, and strength to your family. I only know Laurie from Raven's Child, but loved shopping there because of her. I have many fond memories of shopping there with my mom as a teenager. Laurie was always welcoming and friendly, and she had a knack for making everyone who walked through the door feel pretty and special. She was indeed a class-act, who touched many, many lives. She will be missed.

I shall miss this wonderful lady who always had a big smile and big heart. I only know her through Raven's Child but I stopped there often just so I could see her. She was always like a long lost friend when you walked into the door. She was a caring and passionate woman and her life was cut way too short. We all hurt. I can't imagine going downtown without seeing her there. My sympathy goes out to her family at this very difficult time. We will all miss this very special lady. Focus on the wonderful times with her and how blessed we are for knowing her.

A few favorite memories of my sister-in-law, Laurie...
   when she first started dating my brother, she let me, a 17 year old, drive her Corvair convertible...I thought that was so cool, and I can still picture it
    Laurie and Bob were the first people to babysit my daughter, Julie, when she was 5 days old...Laurie was SO GOOD with babies and kids!
     She had this silly little thing she did, and I need to get it from her girls, something about  "C D E D B D ducks!" "M R not Ducks!"  "S M R "...gotta help me with this Mindy and Betsy!
      Also the song she sang to Julie about the little fishies that swam and swam right over the dam...?
      It was always fun to stop at Raven's Child to catch up on pictures and stories of the girls, and Grandkids. Julie and I were shopping downtown one day and had a few bulky packages when we decided we wanted to see a movie at The State Theater...Laurie took our packages, and leftovers from a restaurant and stored it all for us to be picked up after the show! Just her thoughtful way.

I didn't know Laurie well, but was always greeted with a warm hello and a smile every time I shopped in the boutique.  But on Valentine's day I had the privilege of singing to Laurie (along with 4 other ladies from my Sweet Adelines chorus). Laurie's husband had surprised her with a singing valentine. We sang "It Had to be You". Laurie reacted in such a way, that I could feel the love she had for her husband. Her eyes were filled with tears of joy and love. At the end of the song we all hugged and laughed. That moment was very special to me and I will always cherish the memory. I would like to extend my deepest sympathies to Laurie's husband and family. She touched the lives of so many, even in the simplest of ways.It was a cold snowy day on Valentine's day that we sang for Laurie, but the sun was shining brightly in her heart.

My heart goes out to all the family. Her family meant everything to her especially her grandkids.   Laurie or (yaya) referred to by her grandkids and myself.  Was a beautiful women with an amazing laugh. I will always hear  your laughter.  Yaya always new how to make you feel welcome and smile. Yaya's cooking oh my gosh was so amazing.  She could always get you to eat more. Even though you were completely stuffed. I love you yaya. I will miss you dearly.

I am so sorry for your loss. Laurie was such a wonderful person. I first met her years ago when she was providing outfits and advice for a fashion show the Old Mission Women's Club was having. Subsequently, it was always fun to stop in Raven's Child to shop or just say hello. No matter how long in between visits Laurie always remembered my name and knew what type of clothes I preferred. I will certainly miss her but not nearly as much as will her family.

What a loss.  My deepest sympathy. She was beloved of many.  I was only a repeat customer, but was welcomed as a friend.  One day I took a dress to the counter and said "I'll take it."  Laurie then told me that I had the same dress at home.  She was right and I told her she had lost a sale.  She was so lovely, she will be deeply missed.  Downtown will not be the same. Every time we came to downtown TC we always went in to see Laurie - she was a 'staple' a 'must see' whether we were looking to purchase anything or not it had nothing to do with our stop in to say hi. She was always there greeting us by name with a huge smile on her face and will never forget her contagious laugh. You will certainly be missed Laurie - RIP - much love to you!

I absolutely loved Laurel.  I have been a customer from the beginning and looked forward to buying or just visiting.  Laurel always had a cup of coffee for me and I loved to talk to her about a topic we both enjoyed sharing together regarding family and grandchildren.  She was a special woman and I will always have a special place in my heart for her.  She was an angel on earth.  My prayers are with you family.  I will miss her.

My siblings and I send our heartfelt condolences to Bob and the entire family. We have been testing our memories of Laurie and her family when they moved to Lake Ann, as her mother, Pastor Barber, joined the L.A. Methodist Church family. So many memories of her, as a teenager, a beautiful, young woman, walking her way through all the new life experiences a move brings for a teenager.

So many people came in contact with Laurie and she always made everyone feel special.  You walked into her business as a stranger and left as a friend.  She was that special.  Words seem so inadequate to express my deep felt heartache and how her loss has affected her family, friends and the community. Laurie was such a sweet, sweet lady. She had a way of making every body shape look good and the soul in the body feeling lovely about their reflection in the mirror. Raven's Child has been a favorite store of mine since she opened because she made me feel special and loved every time I saw her. I will miss comparing Grandchildren with her. So very sad to hear of this huge loss to your family and our community.
