Michael Freeland

Michael Allen Freeland, age 68, of Traverse City formerly of Big Rapids passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family Friday, September 19, 2014. He was born November 4, 1945 in Big Rapids to Wessley and Doris (Swaim) Freeland.

Mike served his country proudly in the U.S. Air Force as a military police man. After his discharge Mike worked as a probation officer for Grand Traverse County until his retirement after 28 years.

Mike was a loving and devoted father and grandfather. He was loved and cherished by all who knew him.

He will be greatly missed by his ex-wife and lifetime partner Christina Freeland; his children: daughter: Tina (Jason) Steed and their children: Nick Frixen, Melissa Frixen, and great granddaughter Charlie Frixen; son: Grant E. McKay and his family John and Aimee Sadula, Jose, Haley, Storm, Winter, and Snow; son: Shawn (Michelle) Freeland and their family Jazzy, Gavin, Trey, Dayton, and Alexis; sister Barb (Bob) Devries.

A private family service is being held in Big Rapids where he will be laid to rest in the family plot at West Cemetery in Big Rapids.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Covell Funeral Home of Traverse City.
