

Mildred C. Appolson, age 88, of Traverse City, formerly of Rochester, passed away Wednesday, March 2, 2011 at Munson Medical Center with her family at her side. She was born March 5, 1922 in Detroit to Richard W. and Edna (Bonathan) Knutson. After college she married the late George Appolson in Detroit on June 13, 1942. Together they raised 5 boys.
Mildred worked as a store Manager at Montgomary Ward for over 25 years. After retirement George and Mildred moved to Old Mission.
She enjoyed Painting, crafts, playing the piano, and she was a member of the Old Mission Methodist Church. She was the co-chair of the Old Mission Women’s Club. Mildred was a strong supporter of the Humane Society.
She is survived by 4 sons: Patrick (Jayne) of Hickory N. Carolina, Robert (Nancy) of Valley Center, CA, Kerry (Barbara) of Lake Orion, and Michael (Sharon) Appolson of Auburn Hills; 2 grandchildren: Lori and Christopher Appolson; one great grandson, Logan Martin; sister, Frances Peters of Austin TX.
Besides her parents, Mildred was preceded in death her husband George and a son John Appolson.
A visitation will be held Monday, March 7, 2011 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the Covell Funeral Home in Traverse City. A funeral will be held Tuesday, March 8, 2011 at 11 a.m. also at the funeral home. Burial will take place in the spring at the Bohemian Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Cherryland Humane Society.
