Susie Stachnik

Susie Stachnik 85, of Traverse City died on Friday, March 11, 2011 at the Grand Traverse pavilions, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Kasson Township on August 11, 1925, the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Fleese) Skipski. Susie married Edward Stachnik on August 9, 1947 in Traverse City. She attended St. Francis Catholic Church. Susie enjoyed crocheting, watching Tiger Baseball, Beach Bums Baseball games, playing Euchre and listening to Polkalodian on the radio. She was a loving mother and grandmother. Susie enjoyed her weekly outings with the girls from Elmwood Township. She is survived by her children; Daughter, Mary Ann (Bruce) Sampo of Jenison, two sons; Carl Stachnik of Traverse city and Roger (Ellen) Stachnik of Traverse City, five grandchildren; Jeff Sampo, Chad (Danielle) Sampo, Toby Stachnik, Kallie (Matt Greene) Stachnik, and Kyle Stachnik, and one great-granddaughter Lilly Greene. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Edward Stachnik, daughter-in-law Linda Stachnik , and seven siblings. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 15, 2011 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm from Covell Funeral Home, Traverse City, where a rosary will be prayed at 7pm. A mass from the order of Christian Funerals will be held on Wednesday at 10 am at St. Francis Catholic Church, Rev. Kenneth Stachnik presiding. Burial will take place in Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be given in Susie’s name to the Grand Traverse Pavilions Benevolence Endowment Fund.
