Of Tucker, departed this life on Friday, May 22, 2026 to be with the Lord. Born in Endicott, New York on January 18, 1926. She led a long and fruitful life, experiencing 17 presidential administrations beginning with Calvin Coolidge through Trump 47, She graduated from Union-Endicott High School in 1942, then met and married her husband, Edmund (Ed) Vitkus, in 1947.
She initially devoted her time and energy as a loving wife and mother raising her five children, then worked with General Electric Credit Corporation for 13 years, retiring in 1986. She was always a voracious reader and volunteered extensively in serving Holy Cross Church, the Second Time Around Store, and doted on her ever-growing line of grandchildren. She achieved her goal to not be a burden to her children, staying sharp as ever and active, even continuing to drive after her 100th birthday to the dismay of many, most especially the pastor of her church. She was preceded in death by her parents Nicola and Rosa Longo, her three brothers, husband Ed, daughter Maryann Tew, and grandson Jamey Vitkus.
She is survived by her children: Karen and her husband Bill Mehlinger of Lilburn, GA; Tim and his wife Terri of Knoxville, TN; Tina and her husband Willie Williams of Stuart, FL; Tom and his wife Stephanie of Oakwood, GA, son-in-law Joe Tew Palm Bay, FL and her 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandchild.
