

Barbara Connett Sertich passed away peacefully in her sleep with family by her side at Northeast Atlanta Health and Rehab on March 25, 2011. Born in Mediapolis, Iowa on October 23, 1927 she was the daughter of Donald L. Connett and Elaine Osborne Connett. She grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma and then attended Rollins College in Winter Park, FL where she was a member of Phi Mu Sorority. There she met a young baseball player with the St. Louis Browns organization, Michael P. Sertich, with whom she fell in love and after a short engagement they were married on November 1, 1947. After following "Mike" with his baseball career they settled down in Atlanta, Georgia where they raised their family together until his death in September of 1994. She lived for more than 50 years in the subdivision and house they built together in Sandy Springs. While raising their four children she was involved for many years in various activities through schools and sports. Barbara was a longtime member of the Cathedral of Christ the King and an active member of the Catholic Women's Club for several years. She also enjoyed volunteering as a "Pink Lady" at St. Joseph's Hospital. Barbara was wonderful devoted Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother and will be profoundly missed by her entire family. As the Matriarch of the family she is survived sons: Larry M. Sertich (Lee Sertich) and Donald T. Sertich; daughters, Geralyn S. Northcutt (David Northcutt) and Lynn S. Emory. Grandchildren; Carrie S. Ward, Brooke Turbyfill, Susan N. Hock, Jessica N. Borne, Ryan Northcutt, Alex Tyler, Amanda Emory, Michael Emory and Sierra Emory. Great-Grandchildren; Avery Ward, Brandon Turbyfill, Adison Ward, and a little Hock on the way. Arrangements under the direction of Floral Hills Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Tucker, GA with Graveside Services at Arlington Memorial Park in Atlanta, Georgia on Monday, March 28, 2011 at 12:00. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in her name to the St. Vincent de Paul Society and/or St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
