

Charles Manley Wilburn, 91, passed away on August 31, 2021. We are comforted knowing he is whole and healed in heaven now. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Jo Ellen, two children, David Charles (Eileen) Wilburn and Carol Ann (William) DeMersseman and four grandchildren, Matthew David and Connor Charles Wilburn, and William Isaac and Anna Caroline DeMersseman. He is also survived by two nieces and two nephews, and their families.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Manley Sr. and Bertis Johnson Wilburn, his brother, Jack Thomas (Nancy), his sister, Ruby (Lee) Cook and brother, Robert Edward (Delores).
He was born in Union, South Carolina, and after high school attended a business school, where he joined the Air Force National Guard. He was called up during the Korean War and served in Germany for two years. After service, he completed his education at the University of South Carolina. He was a long time resident of Tucker, retired from Commercial Union Insurance Company in 1993, and was a member of the Progressive Men’s Bible Class at Briarlake Baptist Church. He enjoyed exercise and running and competed in many races for years, including eleven Peachtree Road Races.
Visitation will be held Monday, September 6, at 9:30 AM at Floral Hills Funeral Home in Tucker, GA, followed by a service at 10:30am. Interment will follow at the National Cemetery at Canton, Ga. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts to the Alzheimer’s Association may help to find a solution for this dreadful disease. The family is eternally grateful to the Fountainview Center for Alzheimer’s disease and Crossroads Hospice for excellent loving care for Charles and the family.
