Edna, beloved Matriarch of the Hardman family, peacefully went to be with her Lord and Savior in the early morning hours on December 14, 2023 at the young age of 101. She spent the last 10 months of her life in Stonehenge Assisted Living in Blairsville, Ga near family, enjoying what would be her last days. Edna, along with her second husband of 23 years, Billy Mann were long time residents of Smokerise in Tucker, Ga and members of Oak Grove United Methodist Church. They enjoyed their golden years traveling, playing bridge, teaching Sunday School and volunteering with AARP.
Edna was born in Cairo, WV to parents, Ernest and Stella Wolfe. She graduated high school in 1939 and then married her childhood sweetheart Porter Hardman. They were happily married for 50 years and had 4 wonderful children Porter Jr, Roger, Darlene and Pamela. She is survived by 3 children and their families. Her oldest son, Porter Jr, preceded her in death in 2021.
Her surviving family includes, Porter Jr’s wife, Teresa Hardman (GA) and their 3 children, Deborah Buchanan (GA), Christopher and Lizbeth Hardman (GA) and Joshua Hardman (GA). Roger and Sondra Hardman (TX) and his two children, Roger Jr. and Corrina Hardman (NM) and David and Cathrine Hardman (CO). Darlene and GW Powell (FL) and their three children, Randy and Connie Powell (KS), Cynthia and Archie Johnson (FL) and Derek and Heidi Powell (FL). Pamela Britt (GA) (Robert Britt preceded her in death) and their daughter Paige Wilder (GA). Edna’s family legacy grew through 5 generations with 4 children, 9 grandchildren, 22 living great grandchildren (1 preceded her in death) and 17 great-great grandchildren.
Edna earned a master’s degree in special education from Arkansas University and taught public school for over 25 years and retired from Ashford Park Elementary School in Dekalb County, Ga and also taught Sunday School for over 40 years.
In 2022, in honor of Edna’s 100th birthday she was celebrated in the Tucker community with the proclamation of Edna Hardman Day from Mayor Frank Auman and a party that included music, refreshments, family and neighbors. When asked what was her secret to living to 100 she said, “you just have to do your best every day and the happier you are the longer you will live.” Her motto was “make the best better and serve others”.
A visitation for Edna will be held Tuesday, December 19, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM at Floral Hills Funeral Home & Cremation, 3150 Lawrenceville Highway, Tucker, GA 30084, followed by a graveside service from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM.
