Ernestine West Morrison, age 94, of Decatur Georgia died July 8, 2017. She was born in North Hampton County, North Carolina April 27, 1923. Shortly after her birth, the family moved to Durham North Carolina where she was reared. She graduated from Durham High School in 1941 and entered the University of North Carolina in Greensboro graduating in secondary education and creative writing in 1945.
She took a position as a news reporter with the Durham Morning Herald. After the war ended, she married Arthur Grady Morrison Sr. who was with AT&T. Afterwards, Arthur was called into the Atlanta office as Assistant Engineer. While in Atlanta, she worked for the Boeing Press as a proofreader, and the Gwinnett Board of Education as a Librarian at Lilburn Elementary School. During her 65-year marriage, she traveled to Cincinnati, Ohio and Nashville, Tennessee and later back to Atlanta.
She is survived by three sons Arthur Grady Junior, Jeffrey Sheffield and Jerry Thomas and three grandsons- Tom (LeAnne), Bradley and Hunter Grady. She was also blessed with three daughters in-law June, Sheila, and Melanie. She and her family were long time members of Briarlake Baptist Church.
A private service will be held at a later date.
