She graduated from New Hanover High School, worked locally, and then in 1950 moved to Washington DC where she worked as Secretary for NC Rep. E. Carlyle from 1950-1953. Wanting to travel she accepted an appointment with the US Air Force and was assigned to Ankara, Turkey where she met her soon-to-be husband, Charles A Jennings who was stationed there with the US Air Force. They married in 1955 and his foreign assignments carried them to many places around the world until his untimely death in Pretoria, South Africa at the age of 46. Alone in a foreign country with a 6 year old child she was faced with returning to US soil. Choosing GA where family lived she soon found work as an office administrator for insurance companies, John Hancock and later Transamerica.
Upon retiring in 1992 she enjoyed her knitting, sewing, reading, was heavily involved in church activities & traveled to Greece, Australia, & New Zealand. She succumbed to respiratory ailments & other health issues on March 31, 2016. She is survived by her daughter, Georgia L. Jennings (Atlanta, GA),
her half sister Hollie Johnson (Candler, NC) and her aunt Barbara Rivenbark (Decatur, GA)
