James "Jim" Serio

September 13, 1954 – April 16, 2023

James “Jim” William Serio of Norcross, GA, passed away in his home on Sunday, April 16th, 2023, at the age of 68.

Jim was born on September 13, 1954, in Baltimore and was the son of the late Samuel Joseph, Sr. and Helen Louise Serio. He was the former husband of Susan Cacace Serio.

Jim graduated from the University of Maryland in Baltimore County, where he majored in Religious Studies. He also obtained his Master of Divinity from Westminster Theological Seminary in Philadelphia. He was a pastor for many years and then started a new career in sales with his move to Atlanta in 1990. He loved all things Maryland- the Harbor, blue crabs, and the Orioles. In Atlanta, the Braves and Coca-Cola were his favorite things, as well as family poker, playing ping pong, and spending time with his family.

His surviving relatives are his four girls- Christy Sheets, Lindy McAphee and her husband Darius, Laurie Matsinger and her husband Joey, and Jennifer Skidmore and her husband Ben. His siblings- Samuel Serio, Jr, Diane Serio, Sandy Young and Daniel Serio, who passed in 2017. He was also a loving Grandfather to Morgan Kate and Malachi; Evelyn, Sydney, and Drew; and Elliot Grace, Reid, Piper, and Ford.

Jim was a man of faith, and the family offers this comfort- John 14:1-3 “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.”

The family will receive guests on Friday, April 21, 2023, from 10am-11am until the start of the service at 11am at the Floral Hills Funeral Home & Memory Garden located at 3150 Lawrenceville Hwy, Tucker, GA 30084. A committal service immediately after the service at Floral Hills Memory Gardens, 3000 Lawrenceville Highway, Tucker, GA 30084.
