Loren Hugh Hill, 77, died Fri., Dec. 15, 2023, in Canton, GA, after a long fight against Lewey Body Dementia and Parkinson’s Disease. He was born Jan. 18, 1946, in Spring Valley, Illinois. His parents were Howard Mason Hill, Sr., and Mary Nesbit Hill.
He graduated from Gordon Military College, Georgia State University, and Woodrow Wilson College of Law. He also served four years in the United States Air Force, two years being in Chofu, Japan. Loren’s career was in Procurement Services, at the City of Atlanta offices and Georgia Tech University.
Family was most important to Loren. He became a husband when he married Barbara “Joan” Martin on Dec. 22, 1967, and they enjoyed 56 years of life together. He became a father when he had one daughter, Jennifer Renee (Hill) Slater, and some of his happiest years were spent attending his only child’s many extracurricular events. And in his later years, he very happily became “G-Daddy” to his two beloved granddaughters, Mackenzie and Morgan Slater.
In fact, Loren was most happy when he was at home, working on home improvement projects, entertaining at his backyard pool, collecting model cars, and especially listening to music or watching his vast collection of movies on his latest audiovisual equipment. He also loved to shop, and one proof of that was his and Joan’s picture on the cover of Life Magazine shopping for cars in 1971.
Loren was predeceased by his parents (Howard, Sr., and Mary Hill) and his brother Howard Mason Hill, Jr. He is survived by his wife Joan, daughter and son-in-law Jenny and Mike Slater, and two granddaughters Mackenzie and Morgan Slater.
A Celebration of Life is scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 20, at Floral Hills Funeral Home, 3150 Lawrenceville Hwy., Tucker, GA with Visitation at 1pm, Funeral at 2pm, and Graveside Services at 3pm.
