

Lydia Stinchcomb Atkinson passed away peacefully Tuesday, August 5, 2014. Lydia was born March 8, 1928 in Fayetteville, Georgia to Claudia and Luther Stinchcomb. She married Kenneth Atkinson (deceased) on August 23, 1947. They had four children, Phyllis Ann, Donald Franklin (deceased), Jacqueline Arlene and Leland Dean. She leaves behind five grandchildren: Melissa Rueffer, Kristin Good, Julia Westbrook, Sarah Atkinson and Emily Atkinson and five great grandchildren: Baylie Rueffer, Ella Rueffer, Lilly Taylor, Lydia Good and Lola Good.
Lydia was a very loving, generous and spiritual person and doted on her children, grandchildren and great-grands.
She was an accomplished self-taught pianist and actually took her first piano lesson at age 70. She played piano at various retirement homes, church groups and other functions. She acquired a computer before any of her adult children, was savvy on her Facebook page and loved downloading books and reading them on her Kindle. She was a volunteer for the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. Lydia was also a professional floral designer having designed flowers for many weddings, funerals, and special occasions. At age 70 she took art lessons and enjoyed painting still life and landscapes using oils and acrylics.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes any donations be made to Homestead Hospice, Roswell, Georgia or St. Timothy's United Methodist Church, Stone Mountain, Georgia.
