Nelson Alexis Umanzor was born on September 29, 1999. A loving and kindhearted little boy, his older sister Xenia gave him a nickname that would stick amongst family for the rest of his life - “Pequeño”. Growing up, Nelson loved video games, vacations with family, soccer, and playing with friends. As he got into his early teen years, he loved skateboarding and finding out who he was and how he wanted to portray himself to the world. He loved to blast his music when he was getting ready to leave or just to listen to while he played his XBOX 360. Nelson would go on to blossom in high school. He was the Vice President of his class for his senior year, and heavily involved in many clubs and teams. He played lacrosse with many close friends, and was jokingly described as an honorary member of the swim and dive team - as he was not on the team but did go to every meet and every fundraising event.
Nelson was the kind of person who gave you his all. He was welcoming to all people, no matter what. He treated everyone with respect. He was funny, with the most unique sense of humor. He was not afraid to put himself out there. He was smart, bright, and witty. Nelson was one of the most ambitious people on the planet, with hopes and dreams he could have definitely achieved. He loved his friends like they were his family. He vowed to give his parents back everything they had done for him. He wanted to go to Georgia State University or Kennesaw State University, then transfer to NYU. He dreamed of living his life in New York City, a place he visited almost every summer to spend time with family there. Nelson loved Naruto, DBZ, and other anime’s. He loved to eat ramen, he loved to go on runs, and he especially loved being a big brother to Dylan, his youngest sibling.
Nelson is always going to be missed. The sudden loss of this amazing young man will never sit right with those who loved him the most. However, in many ways, he lives on and his light will always remain on this earth. Nelson leaves behind his parents - Vilma and Nelson Antonio Umanzor, his sister Xenia, and his little brother Dylan. He also leaves behind extended family (aunts, uncles, and cousins) who will miss him too.
Pequeño, we love you and we will always hold you in our hearts.
