

Darby was born in Atlanta, GA to Clyde William and Juanita Green Darby. He was a 1960 graduate of Georgia Military Academy, attended Reinhardt University and Brenau University. He served with the Army and the Army National Guard. While in Atlanta, he was owner and operator of an American Oil Service Station, and he was employed with: The Georgia State Patrol; The State of Georgia Revenue Department; The MARTA Police Department (retired at the rank of Major). He also served on the Board of P.O.S.T. Council. and was appointed by Governor Zell Miller to be the Executive Director of P.O.S.T. (Police Officer Standards and Training) for the State of Georgia. He served as Director until his retirement. Darby and his wife of 53 years, Priscilla, would make regular visits from their home in Atlanta to St. Simons Island, and made St. Simons their permanent residence in 2005, after Darby's retirement. He was a member of BPO Elks Lodge 78 in Atlanta and was a member of the Elite Raccoons of Bennie's Red Barn.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Priscilla Deming Darby of St. Simons Island, a sister-in-law, Sharon Darby of Lilburn, GA; brother-in-law, Michael David Deming (Susie), of Greensboro, GA; nieces, Shannon Darby Hughes (Christopher) of Lilburn, GA; and Kathryn Deming Croft (Riley) of New Orleans, LA; nephews, Jody Deming (Mandy) of Gainesville, GA; Kevin R. Deming (Rebecca) of Robinson, PA; and Michael D. Deming, Jr, (Erica) of Decatur, GA. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Roger Stephen Darby, and a brother-in-law, Leighton B. Deming, Jr.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 8, 2025, 2:30pm, at the Floral Hills Funeral Home in Tucker, GA, with burial to follow in the Floral Hills Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends one hour prior to service time, at the funeral home. Executive Pastor Kevin R. Deming will be officiating.
