
Samuel George Weir passed away peacefully on Saturday August 21, 2021 after months contending with many health complications. Sam was born on May 18, 1937 to Roland and Virginia (Keiffer) Weir in Scottsburg, IN.
In his early life he was a devoted hand on the family farm which instilled in him a strong work ethic and desire to excel. By the age of 16 he earned Eagle Scout and the Order of the Arrow within the Boy Scouts of America. After graduating from high School Sam held several jobs before landing at the Sperry & Hutchinson Company (S&H Green Stamps) in Cincinnati, OH. He worked there for 43 years before his retirement in 2004.
During retirement the journey was not over, he remained an active member of the Tucker First United Methodist Church since 1974 which included ushering and many other positions, a member of the Wesley Fellowship Sunday school class, worked part time at Heritage Golf Course, served as an HOA board member for Hampton Place, etc. He was always there when something needed to get done.
He and his wife Carolyn (Thormyer) Weir were married on November 23, 1957 and remained happily married for 63+years. Sam is also survived by his son Mark and Mary Jane (Billheimer) Weir, brother Lawrence and Carol Weir, sister Sharon and Richard Thiele, brother Ronald and Sherry Weir, brother Donald Weir, brother Thomas and Sharon Weir and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 am – 10:45 am at Tucker First United Methodist Church with the celebration of life to follow at 11:00 am on Friday, August 27, 2021. Reverend Owen Skinner, Reverend Jim Higgins, and Reverend Gerald Varner officiating.
The honorary pallbearers are members of the Wesley Fellowship Class.
