March 25, 1932 – December 21, 2025
Theodore “Ted” Richard Heffner passed away peacefully this weekend at Blue Ridge Assisted Living in Blue Ridge, GA. He was 93 years old, and in the company of his wife of almost 70 years, Margaret “Peggy” MacDonald Heffner.
Ted was born in Newark, NJ to William B. Heffner and Ann Robinson Heffner, and attended Hillside High School where he was voted “Most Friendly” by his fellow classmates. After graduating, he attended Rutgers University, before later relocating to Georgia with his young wife, Peggy, and their newborn daughter. Ted transferred to Georgia State University and received his Bachelor of Business Administration degree in 1971. Ted and Peggy spent the next several decades in Tucker, Georgia, raising their four children: Lynne, Anne, Ricky, and John.
Ted was deeply committed to his community and his faith. He was an active and devoted member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Tucker, where he oversaw several building projects over the years, including the construction of Heffner Hall, named in his honor.
Beyond his church involvement, Ted was a cornerstone of his longtime neighborhood, Winding Woods. He played an instrumental role in developing the swim and tennis facilities, organizing the swim team, and—together with Peggy—helped create numerous neighborhood activities and groups that fostered lasting friendships.
Ted spent his entire professional career as an engineer with Western Electric and AT&T, retiring from AT&T after 43 years of dedicated service. In retirement, Ted continued serving his church, enjoyed playing golf and traveling, and cherished time with friends—especially weekly Chick-fil-A dinners on Mondays and Thursday morning men’s breakfasts.
Above all else, Ted was a loving husband, a devoted father, and a kind, generous, and doting “Pop-Pop” to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Ted was preceded in death by his parents, William B. Heffner and Ann Robinson Heffner; his brothers, William B. Heffner Jr. and Robert Heffner; his daughter, Lynne Heffner Moseley; and his son-in-law, John Stephen Moseley.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret MacDonald Heffner; his daughter, Anne Heffner May (Donald); his sons, Richard Alden Heffner (Dorry) and John David Heffner (Jennifer); his grandchildren Jennifer Ruth Moseley, Benjamin John Moseley, Timothy Alden Heffner (Taylor), Jonathan Mills Heffner (Lucinda), Katelyn Marie Heffner Neely (Josh), Garrett Mathew Heffner, and Lauren Anne Heffner; and his two great-grandchildren, Lillian Jane Heffner and Audrey Paige Neely.
A service celebrating Ted’s life will be held at 4:00pm on Tuesday, Dec. 30th at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in the Sanctuary, with a reception immediately following in Heffner Hall. A private interment will take place at Floral Hills Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Ted’s memory to St. Andrews Presbyterian Church.
