He was born in Glendale, WV, the son of the late Maurice William and Ruth Zumbrunnen Sperling.
A chemist by degree, Mr. Sperling retired at 62 from chemical sales at B.F. Goodrich and was a veteran of the United States Army.
Once the captain of West Virginia Wesleyan College men's tennis team, he led an active life as an avid runner and tai chi enthusiast. Mr. Sperling was preceded in death by his wife, Jacqueline Corl Sperling, and his son, Dale Sperling.
Survivors include his sons and daughters-in-law, Steve (Lisa) Sperling of Lawrenceville and Scott (Susan) Sperling of Buford, his five grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 11, at 2:00 pm in the chapel of Floral Hills Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Floral Hills Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 12:00-2:00 pm on Saturday.
