Andy Hodap was born on November 28, 1938. He had two brothers and two sisters. He went to school at a monastery in Austria, where he learned Greek, Latin and English.
His family left Austria in 1956 to escape World War II. They immigrated to Chicago Illinois, where he attended night school to learn more of the English language.
Andy and his older brother Nick, bought a black 1957 Chevy together. They took turns sitting in the drivers seat. They could not drive it, as neither one had a drivers license.
Andy became an American citizen in 1963, and set out to live the American dream. He worked as a window washer, dangling from a rope high above the busy streets of Chicago.
He met Rita in 1958 at the German Club in Chicago. They were married on February 6, 1960. They had three children, Peter, Marc and Linda.
Andy moved his family to Tucson Arizona in 1972. They bought a house where they lived for the last 41 years.
He was an extremely hard worker. The first to arrive and the last to leave. Andy worked at Romanoski Glass and Mirror for over 30 years. He started as a glazier and worked his way up to vice president of the company. Romanoski Glass and Mirror became his second home and the people he worked with became his second family.
He was a very strong man that loved his family. He was especially proud of his six grand children. His eyes would light up and he would have a big smile on his face when he was with them. He loved them fiercely. There is nothing he would not do for them.
Over the last 3 years he had one major health issue after another. He fought long, he fought hard, he fought to survive his family.
Andy was one of a kind! He is a great man and respected by everyone that knew him. His family loves him very much. He will be extremely missed every single day! He may be gone but he will never be forgotten. It has been an honor and a privilege to have him as my father.
