

August Rafael "Auggie" Velazquez, 83, of Tucson, Arizona, passed away on August 28, 2024. Born on May 24, 1941, in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Auggie was a vibrant soul known for his love of laughter and an enduring passion for all things automotive and aeronautical.
Auggie's early education took place in Europe, were he learned and spoke seven different languages followed by high school in Paso Robles California. His thirst for knowledge led him to pursue further education at Chabot College, Los Positas College, University of Phoenix, and U.C. Berkeley. Alongside his studies, Auggie dedicated 20 years to the U.S. Army, serving his country with distinction and honor.
Following his military service, Auggie worked at various jobs while continuing his education. His roles included positions at Sears, as a security guard, and at leading car rental companies such as Avis, Dollar Rent A Car, and Hertz.
Auggie's hobbies were a reflection of his vibrant and adventurous spirit. He was deeply involved in building hot rods, racing cars, attending car shows and of course flying airplanes. Besides engaging in these challenging activities, he loved to draw and was fond of martial arts where he achieved 7th degree black belt in both Karate and Judo.
Auggie's generous and loving nature will be dearly missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Charlotte; son, Ricardo, from a previous marriage; brother-in-law, Gary; niece, Jennifer (Chris); grand nieces, Georgianna and Angelina; and numerous cousins across Puerto Rico and the United States. He was preceded in death by his parents, Augusto and Elisa; daughter, Yvonne; and several beloved aunts and uncles.
Services to honor Auggie's life will be held on September 23, 2024, at 6:00 pm at East Lawn Palms Mortuary & Cemetery, 5801 E. Grant Rd, Tucson, AZ. A military honors service and interment will take place on September 24, 2024, at 11:00 am at Arizona Veteran's Memorial Cemetery, 15950 N. Luckett Rd., Marana, AZ. East Lawn Palms Mortuary and Cemetery in Tucson, AZ, is assisting the family during this time.
