Bertha Ramona Hernandez

Bertha Ramona Hernandez was born in March 1934 in the southern Arizona town of Bisbee, and passed away peacefully on August 3, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was the eldest of four children born to Herlinda and Leopoldo Montero.

Bertha was blessed with ten children, as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. She had a beautiful soul and lived a life of grace, teaching her family the importance of hard work and the golden rule — to treat others as you wish to be treated. But above all, her greatest legacy was instilling in her loved ones a deep and abiding trust in the Lord through every circumstance.

Bertha never ceased to tell people how proud she was of her children and grandchildren. To say that her family was her pride and joy would certainly not be an understatement. She loved cooking for them, sharing her recipes and cooking knowledge while also imparting pieces of wisdom that would help them to maneuver through life’s journey.

Her life’s journey led her through many jobs early in her years but by 1980 she found rewarding and honorable work at Hughes Aircraft where she worked her way from custodian to machinist. She took great pride in supporting her country and retired in 1996 after 16 years there.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Herlinda and Leopoldo Montero, her sister Beatrice Dorame and her beloved son, Andres Leopoldo Hernandez.

Bertha is survived by her children — Emily, Joe, Nick, Linda, Eleanor, Mary, Victoria, James, and Isaac — along with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Elsa Aranda, and her brother, Leopoldo Montero.

Bertha will be missed by all who knew her but we know she is visiting with loved ones in heaven and awaiting the day when she will once again embrace her family.

A visitation for Bertha will be held Saturday, August 16, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM at Funeraria del Angel South Lawn, 5401 South Park Ave, Tucson, AZ 85706, followed by a funeral service from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM.
