Betty Lou Hauser peacefully in her sleep, joined the glory of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ in heaven on February 8, 2021 at the age of 91. Betty was born in Mankato, Minnesota December 29, 1929 to Wynn and Manda Stoll. She became a baptized child of God January 16, 1930 and was confirmed in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Waseca, Minnesota April of 1943. Betty graduated from Central High School Waseca, MN. She attended and graduated from Bethany Lutheran College and Mankato State College. She achieved her Master’s of Education and her Master of Administration both from the University of Arizona.
Betty moved to Tucson in 1954 where she joined and attended Grace Lutheran Church for many years. It was at this church she met and married Bernard Hauser June 11, 1954. Betty was a devoted member of Grace, sang in the church choir from 1954-2011. Betty had a beautiful, trained voice and served as a church soloist for church services, weddings, and funerals. She taught Vacation Bible School and trained her three children to grow and live in the ways of the Lord. Betty and her dear friend and travel companion, Barbara Bucholz, along with other faithful members at Grace developed a successful and continuing English as a Second Language program. Through this program the church and many volunteers witnessed and brought the gospel to foreign students attending the UA and Tucsonans as they learned to speak, read, and write English while they heard the saving Gospel every week. Betty spent most of her teaching career working in the Tucson Unified School District. She taught primary grades in several schools, worked with the federal program “Follow Through Parent Involvement” as a program assistant and coordinator mentoring countless teachers and parents in better ways to work with their students and children. She also served as master principal at Richey and Dietz Elementary Schools. After 40 years with TUSD, she retired in 1992. After retirement Betty served as a faithful volunteer in her grandchildren’s schools Redeemer and Faith Lutheran. She was an avid educator but probably her favorite role was being a grandma.
Betty is survived by and dearly loved by her children; daughters Nancy Hartman (Kevin) and Karen Christianson (Dean) of Tucson; son Jeffrey Hauser (Lori) of Tucson, and one sister Marilyn (Jerry) Murray of Bozeman, MT. Betty has six grandchildren Paul and Dan Hauser, Ryan Christianson, Sarah Runge, Erika Nelson, and Jenna Deibel; nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bernard in 1972; sisters Nancy Petrich and Georgia Rettmer. All these dear family members have left those surviving a legacy of memories and unconditional love. It is with a heavy heart we say goodbye to our beloved mother, mother-in-law, grandma, sister, and friend. Betty was a strong, Christian woman who taught us how to give generously and to love and serve Jesus.
A memorial Service will be held on Saturday, February 20, 2021 at 11:00 at Grace Lutheran Church Tucson 830 N. 1st Avenue, Tucson, Arizona 85719.
