Charles married his one and only true love, Elizabeth Vigil on the 3rd of May 1959. They are parents of 5 children: Cheryl (Anthony) Acosta, Gerald (Linda) Coco, Richard (Teresa) Coco, Veronica (Michael) Valdez and Joshua Lee Coco. Charles is Grandfather to 13 grandchildren: Christopher, Amanda, Gerald, Veronica and Mando Thomas; Stephen, Yvette, Julane and Jackie. Leonard, Lawrence and Samantha.
He is Great Grandfather to 10; Delianna, Del Jr., Angel, Zia, Nicholas and Kalani, Adam, Mariah and Enrique. And Charlie Elizabeth. He is Uncle to numerous nieces and nephews as well, far too many to count.
Charles was raised in Pueblo, Colorado. He joined the United States Army after high school, serving three years in the United States and acquiring a lifetime of Patriotism. He continued residing in Pueblo until 1966. He then moved his beautiful bride and children to California, where his career at Douglas Aircraft began; along with his love for aviation. He remained with the company until his retirement in 1993.
Charles was an amazing husband, his loyalty and devotion to his lovely wife Elizabeth were unsurpassed.
Charles and Elizabeth were best friends, confidants and travel partners. They shared many adventures together on the road, on the sea and abroad creating a lifetime of memories. He was a wonderful father with a wealth of unconditional love for his children.
When the children were young, Charles was a strong presence at all of their Little league ball games and was always available to help his sons Boy Scout troops, helping with meetings and volunteering for camp outings, later ushering the children to parades and band competitions when they were marching band members. Due to being so present and helpful, Charles was named Honorary team Grandpa at one time for his granddaughters football team. Charles was a selfless man, generous, giving and always willing to lend a helping hand whenever and wherever needed.
Charles truly lived life to the fullest. He was an avid jogger and hiker, running numerous marathons from Northern California to Baja California and Hawaii. He also ran the Catalina Island "50" mile run on different occasions. Among Charles' challenges was the U.S. Bank Tower Climb in downtown Los Angeles, having completed the climb of 1664 steps, 75 stories high! When Charles' passion for jogging came to an end, he picked up cycling and started hiking more. He hiked the Twin Peak Mountains in Colorado three times! After moving to Arizona he challenged and conquered Hunter Trail, a steep two mile trail that leads to the top of Picacho Peak with a rapid gain of 900 feet elevation the last half mile. He also hiked Tumamoc Hill at least 47 times. Charles adventures took him to the sky as well, beginning with parasailing in Mexico. His sky adventures were plentiful, having flown in a vast array of aircraft; helicopter rides, engineless glider planes, crop planes; along with a WWII T-6 Texan bomber that included a bonus inside loop maneuver twice! And that's because he closed his eyes the first time. How do you top that? Well you do so by celebrating your 80th birthday Skydiving! Yes he did. At age 84 he joined his family white water river rafting at the Arkansas River in Colorado.
Charles was a true inspiration and touched the lives of many. He definitely left a lasting impression on family, friends and strangers alike. He certainly could bring a smile to ones face with his silly sense of humor. Charles was a kind man with a gentle soul; a man of great character, strong and devout.
Charles was forever faithful to His Heavenly Father and Saviour Jesus Christ until the very end.
