Dear Cal's Family-
I am a friend from 1979 when Cal & I lived in a remote cabin in Idaho for a Winter outside of Riggins. We had a lot of fun writing letters to friends and family, enticing visitors with cartoonish maps. We worked on the cabin, chopped wood and went to town every couple weeks for a shower and get mail & provisions.  Wally Heath from Bellingham and fellow researchers, Dave & Annette Hinds brought Cal and I together caretaking the cabin, and I went on to Boulder for college Fall of 1980, returning to visit Cal in 1981 (I think) Many fond memories and photos (still have) - saved his ass a couple times from the elements - all-in-all one of my favorite times in Life. Sad to learn today of his passing, but I know he was a genuinely kind Soul.
