It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved father, Daniel R. Ortiz, who left us too soon on January 28, 2025, at the age of 73. Daniel was born on March 9, 1951, and spent his life as a devoted father and husband, strong in his faith, and deeply rooted in his love for his family.
Our father grew up working on a ranch as a young child, which sparked his lifelong love for the cowboy way of life. His passion for westerns, especially Gunsmoke, was something you could always catch him watching. He was always outdoors in the Tucson heat working on a car or cleaning his yard in his favorite white T-shirt.
Daniel lived in Silver City, New Mexico before moving to Tucson in 1974 to raise his family. He is now reunited with his beloved wife, Rosie Ortiz, who predeceased him, as well as his father, Felipe Ortiz, and his sister, Betty Gomez (Robert Gomez +). He leaves behind his loving mother, Ramona Ortiz, and his cherished siblings: Felipe (Christina), Charlie (Elise), Johnny (Virginia), Eloy, and Barbara.
Our Dad was the proud father of five children: Carol (Mike +), Geraldine (Frank), Evelyn (Jose), Melissa (Anthony), and Mel (Jahssel). He was also the proud grandfather to 16 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
Dad loved to have a good time, often enjoying a cold beer in his backyard surrounded by his family and friends, enjoying music and always ready to share a story or a laugh. He was a man of deep faith and devotion, a true Catholic who attended church regularly and held his beliefs close throughout his life.
Daniel’s legacy will live on in the hearts of his family and friends. He was a father who knew how to enjoy life, with a joyful spirit and a heart full of love for those around him. His larger-than-life presence, his laughter, and his warm smile will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Rest in peace, Dad. You’ll always be our favorite cowboy.
