Dennis Paul Jones was born in Anderson Indiana on Jan 12, 1936 to Carol and William Jones. He was the eldest brother to Larry and Curt Jones. As a child he was naturally curious and mechanically inclined and would regularly take things apart to put back together again much to his parent's chagrin. After high school Dennis attended Purdue University for electrical engineering. Shortly before graduating Dennis enlisted in with the USAF where he continued his education and work in the electrical engineering field. He flew reconnaissance/research missions over the Northern Arctic, monitoring flight and data collection equipment.
During his time stationed in Biloxi Mississippi with the USAF he met his first Wife Rosemary, who had a daughter, Gaye, from a previous marriage, whom Dennis adopted. His wife Rosemary passed away in 1965. Dennis met and married his wife Paula of 47 years in 1966. Paula had a daughter, Donna, from her previous marriage that had made her a young widow. The newly blended family moved to Longmont Co in 1967, where Dennis worked for IBM, a company he would work at for 33 yrs until he was forced into early retirement. Dennis's name is on a patent, currently owned by IBM, as the inventor of a component used in the production of IMB's first reels of magnetic tape used to store memory on IBM's first giant computers. Dennis and Paula had their son Jeffery in 1969. Dennis began a monthly subscription to National Geographic 9 months before Jeffery's birth and would continue receiving the magazine for decades. Dennis was famous for his epicly planned cross country road trips every summer in multiple wood paneled station wagons, with down to the minute schedules and spreadsheets mapping out every pitstop, rest-stop and national monument from the pacific north west to the Appalachian trail. He raised independent, open minded, adventurous children whose curiosity about the world would last them a life time.
Dennis dutifully cared for his wife Paula during her long illness with COPD until she passed away in 2013.
Dennis was diagnosed with early stage Alzheimer's/dementia in 2016. He passed away peacefully in hospice after a short illness on Dec 3rd, 2024. He is survived by his son Jeffery Jones of Tucson AZ, his daughter Gaye Dennis and son-in-law Fred Dennis of Seattle WA, his grandson Aaron Munoz and son-in-law, Joe Munoz, of Mesa AZ, his brother Curt Jones and sister-in-law Jan Jones of Marana AZ, his brother Larry Jones and sister-in-law Jeanie Jones of Anderson Indiana and many nieces and nephews.
Dennis's family is planning a private memorial to be held when his marker is ready, at his place of interment next to his wife Paula Jones at East Lawn Palms Mortuary and Cemetery in Tucson AZ.
