Thank you all for being here today. Family and friends from near and far, we thank you for joining us to celebrate the life and journey of our beloved Sister, Wife, Mother, Mother-in-Law, Grandma, and Friend. I am her oldest brother, Richard Villelas Sr. and have the honor of sharing a few words about my sister with you.
Eulalia Delcid Villelas Colmenero was born to Manuel and Consuelo Villelas in Tucson, AZ on October 20, 1940. Lali gave her life to the Lord on April 10, 1955 in Sabino Canyon. She would meet the love of her life, Salvador Colmenero Jr, in 1945 when she was only 5 years old. Sal, wouldn’t catch her eye or get the girl until much later. Lali married my best friend on June 3, 1962. What a lucky guy! Que No Sal?
Sal and Lali’s marriage was blessed with four children and 11 grandchildren.
• Salvador III & Faye Ann Colmenero.
o Children: Robert Gutierrez & Jennifer Rose
• Jacob & Angela Colmenero.
o Children: Jacob, Adrian Rivero and Emily Grace.
• Barbara Christina & Manuel Valenzuela.
o Children: Manuel Jamison, Christiane, and Ezra James.
• Joel & Sonia Colmenero.
o Children: Aaron Michael, Hannah Rae and Abigail Marie.
Whoever “Lali” was for you in your life, you are sure to have been touched someway, somehow by her quick wit, her giving nature, her joyous laugh, her silly jokes, her beautiful poetry, or even being on the losing end of an argument. When Lali was right, she would argue her point until you gave up. She was also always available to offer words of wisdom, practical advice as well as encouragement to anyone who was in need. This was our Lali.
But not only that, Lali was also was a Friend of God, and obedient to His calling in her life. Her gaze was up towards the heavens. She was a woman of prayer and served in ministry, holding just about every position available with the Dorcas of the Apostolic Assembly of the Faith in Christ Jesus. Lali also made it a point to visit many people in the hospital, gave conferences, prepared Christmas stockings for children out on the reservation, and truly showed the love of Christ to those outside the four walls of the church. Later on in life, she had the amazing opportunity of traveling to the country of Chile to minister at a Dorcas Camp along with Sister Liz Hugo.
Lali was a giver; she gave of herself and she did it without expecting anything in return. Everywhere she would go, people would fall in love with her. Lali was a true Proverbs 31 woman.
The Woman Who Fears the LORD
PROVERBS 31:10-12 & 23-31
10 [d] An excellent wife who can find?
She is far more precious than jewels.
11 The heart of her husband trusts in her,
and he will have no lack of gain.
12 She does him good, and not harm,
all the days of her life…
23 Her husband is known in the gates
when he sits among the elders of the land.
24 She makes linen garments and sells them;
she delivers sashes to the merchant.
25 Strength and dignity are her clothing,
and she laughs at the time to come.
26 She opens her mouth with wisdom,
and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue.
27 She looks well to the ways of her household
and does not eat the bread of idleness.
28 Her children rise up and call her blessed;
her husband also, and he praises her:
29 “Many women have done excellently,
but you surpass them all.”
30 Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain,
but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised.
31 Give her of the fruit of her hands,
and let her works praise her in the gates.
In the words of my sister I close with this:
She-huela! We miss you so much! Toditito our hearts are broken to see you go. Pero Ikimas! You are finally reunited with the whole she-bang; Mom and Dad, Ralphie, Manny, Estella, my wife Gloria and your nephew Ricky. But most importantly, you are now rejoicing and dancing in the presence of our Lord, who will be holding our hearts and comforting us as we grieve your loss. We Love you Lali. See you later.
