Everett Wesley “Bud” English, 95, passed peacefully from this earth into his Heavenly Father’s arms on March 29, 2016. Bud was born April 10, 1920 in Springvale, Maine to George and Leola English. His first job was as a bellhop at the historic Kennebunckport Inn. He enlisted in the Massachusetts National Guard in November of 1939 and was activated as a Sargent with the United States Army in 1942 at the onset of America’s involvement in World War II. He married the love of his life, Louise Powell, in 1941. Bud’s exceptional service earned him a promotion to the Officer ranks as a 2nd Lieutenant right before he was deployed to the Pacific Theatre in January of 1943. There he served continuously for two and a half years on remote islands as the Commanding Officer of a Searchlight Anti-Aircraft Artillery battalion. He was medically retired from the Army in 1947 at the rank of Major. Bud moved his family to Tucson in 1961 where he was employed by Tucson Electric Power for 21 years, retiring in 1982. He dedicated the remainder of his life to church and community service with the Optimist’s, the Lion’s, and the Elk’s clubs. He served as a Deacon and Elder at Westminster Presbyterian Church as well as Catalina Baptist Church. Bud loved life and everything living. He fed ducks at his backyard pool and couldn’t pass a dog without stopping to pet it. He had a warm sense of humor and a ready smile for his many friends. He loved to sing and dance and often spread joy through impromptu public displays of his dancing skill. He was proceeded in death by Louise (Powell) English in 1983, Sarah (Newcomb) English in 2002, and Barbara (Emmons) English in 2011. He is survived by his sons Everett English, JR (Susan), Kenneth English (Lori), and daughter Deborah McDevitt (Mike), four grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren. He will be dearly missed.
