Frances Ann Carney, 91, died November 24, 2011. She passed in her sleep; there was no discomfort and she seemed at peace. A memorial service will be held this Friday at the East Lawn Palms Mortuary in Tucson, AZ.
She was born January 25, 1920, in Charleston, West Virginia to Joseph and Annae Kucharczyk. Her father was a miner in West Virginia and her mother a housewife. Her family later moved to New Brunswick, New Jersey.
Frances grew up in New Brunswick during the great depression and all the children except Frances had to leave high school to work in the local factories. Frances was a good student, graduating from the Brunswick High School and later attending a business college. During World War II she worked at the Raritan Arsenal in Edison, New Jersey, where she met and later married John Edward Carney.
After the war, she traveled to the Philippines, Japan, Germany and other places with her husband John who was in the military. In 1968 they moved to Tucson to finish raising their children. Her husband John retired from the civil service in 1980 and is now deceased.
Frances was a homemaker and devoted much of her time and energy as a caring mother to her family. She loved to play cards and was successful in earning a Life Masters in Bridge. She was a devout Catholic and active parishioner of the St. Cyril’s Church in Tucson. Her interests included family, bridge, gardening and wild life.
Mrs. Carney is survived by her daughter, Kathy Carney; 2 sons, John and William Carney; and 3 grandchildren, Kent, Sean and Claire.
