TSgt Mathis was the best supervisor I ever had in the Air Force.  I was stationed with him at Davis-Monthan AFB in Tucson AZ in the 60's. Lost track of him when I went to the Vietnam War.  May you rest in peace my friend.

Condolences to the Mathis family.  Sorry for your loss. Grady was my boss at Davis-Monthan AFB, AZ.  TSGT Mathis was my supervisor. He was my very good friend. He always treated his troops with respect. I tried looking for him many times over the years.  When I went to Thailand in 1968 that was the last time I had contact with him. Had I known he was living in Tucson I would have come and visited him. Your family is in my prayers.  Dave & Vangie Yanez

Few people can leave the kind of impression on my life and the life of my family as Dec. Grady Mathis did.  When I was coming up through the most important years of raising a family, serving the U.S. Air Force and serving at Rising Star MBC, Tucson, Dec. Mathis took me in like a son.  He was like a grand pops to the kids while we live in Tucson those 14 years.  May God bless the family with the peaceful memories that you deserve to have as you remember his life.  His footsteps were solid.

Sgt. Mathis 

Was like a father to me. Especially after his best friend died in a motorcycle accidents October 1976. His best friend was my dad Cecil Ricks. Every Friday night my dad would have his Buddies over the play cards and Dominoes. They would sometimes be there until Saturday night. This picture was one of those days on a Saturday afternoon. My dad was a musician for many years. He knew Nat King Cole’s brother Ike Cole. This Saturday Ike came to visit my parents and Sgt Mathis was there. We all took a picture with Ike Cole in the center. I hope you see the resemblance. The day my dad died Sgt Mathis became my dad. When I was sad and crying he would look into my eyes and say “where are those sparkling wheels I always see Turning in your eyes? “ He would always bring a smile to my face. I got married very young and as young couples do my husband and I would always argue. All I had to do was call on Sgt Mathis to come save me. He would come and talk to the both of us as a father would his children. By the end of our lecture he would have us laughing.  Sgt Mathis gave my husband his first American job as a janitor at American Building Maintenance. For that we are grateful. 
I was thrilled when his daughter Sonya invited me to his 90th birthday party last year. I was even more blessed to be able to come. I was determined to get there even if I had to walk from Texas to Arizona. Our last words to each other on Fathers Day was I love you.💕

My sincerest condolences to the  Mathis family. We all grew up together and became family.  We will always have very fond memories of Both, Mr and Mrs Mathis.  We pray peace and love for the Mathis family.

I wish I had gotten to know Deacon Mathis more. However; I was placed in an assigned position by The Lord when I found myself sitting right next to him at church service one Sunday morning (opposite side to that of where I normally sit). He began telling me about him being one of the original members of the old Rising Star location. As I listened I saw so much wisdom in his eyes and I knew The Lord did that purposely! Thank you for that beautiful memory, Deacon Mathis,  I will do my duty to God to carry on the work that He sees fit for me to do in OUR church. You have been rewarded, my Brother in Christ! Hallelujah!!

Our condolences to the entire Mathis family… deacon was loved… and i enjoyed our talks… all our faces would light up when he attended noon day Bible Study and shared his wisdom and sang some of the memorable hymns from back in the day… he will be missed, but we know he is safe in the arms of the LORD🙌🏽🌹

My grandfather was the strongest man I've ever known. They don't make them like him. I will truly miss him and am thankful God placed him in my life and allowed me to be his granddaughter. I'll always love you Grandpaul 💙💙💙

My deepest condolences to the Mathis family. Your Dad has been a big part of our family for years. He would come over and play pinochle and dominoes with my Dad Cecil Ricks sometimes staying overnight. Keeping in touch with our Mom. He was a great friend to them. We have been blessed to have had him in our lives over many, many years. Your family remains in my prayers. Praying the Lord brings you comfort and peace
