Hector Soto Ramirez, 74, of Tucson, passed away on February 25, 2026, in Tucson, Arizona surrounded by his devoted wife and loving family. He was born on June 18, 1951, in Tucson, where he spent nearly his entire life and built deep roots in the community he cherished.
Hector graduated from Tucson High School in 1969. Shortly after, he joined the Tucson Plumbers and Fitters JAC Union, completing his apprenticeship in 1977 and becoming a journeyman union plumber. In 1988, he began working as an inspector for the City of Tucson. In September of 1996, he proudly opened Boss Plumbing alongside his daughter, Elisa, and son-in-law, Mark Morris. Over the decades, Hector contributed to the construction and maintenance of countless buildings throughout Tucson and the surrounding areas – quiet, lasting testaments to his skill and dedication. After several attempts at retirement, he spent his final working years with Child-Parent Centers (Head Start) as a Maintenance Specialist. While he took pride in caring for the facilities, what he loved most was talking with teachers and interacting with students each day.
A passionate sports fan, Hector enjoyed watching all kinds of athletics. He especially loved cheering for the Dallas Cowboys, the Arizona Diamondbacks, and all things University of Arizona. He even learned the rules of soccer and volleyball so he could better support his grandchildren in the sports they played.
Music was another of Hector’s great loves. A talented, self-taught musician, he played trumpet in the Tucson High marching band and later played guitar and organ for several local bands that performed throughout Tucson and the surrounding areas. It was while playing in one of these bands that he met the one true love of his life, Linda Armenta, whom he married on December 19, 1970. They shared 55 wonderful years together and were rarely seen apart. Though work briefly took them to Louisiana and California, Tucson was always home – the place where they built their life and raised their family.
Hector gave generously to his community. He coached softball and baseball for Tucson Mountain Little League and served as the President of the league. He was instrumental in building the snack bar and in securing lights at Cholla High School so older teams could play night games. He was also an active member of the Mexican American Golf Association, consistently participating in the events and service efforts that supported the community.
Above all, Hector was a devoted, loving husband, father and Tata. Linda was the light of his life, and his children and grandchildren were his greatest joy. He was the provider, protector, and foundation of his family. He took tremendous pride in both his family and his work. He was knowledgeable in nearly everything, funny, sarcastic, entertaining, affectionate, and witty. He taught his family the value of hard work and the importance of caring for one another. He filled their home with music, laughter, conversation and - most importantly - love. His amazing sense of humor brought joy to everyone around him, and he was always willing to help anyone in need. Hector leaves a permanent mark on the hearts and lives of all who knew him. He will be dearly missed and never forgotten.
Hector is preceded in death by his parents, Manuel and Esther Ramirez, and by his grandson, Hector Ramirez Jr. He is survived by his beloved wife, Linda; his children, Elisa (Mark) Morris, Leslie (David) Miranda, Hector (Erica) Ramirez; his grandchildren, Mark (Maya) Morris Jr., Valerie Morris, Samantha (Kyle) Rivera, Daijiah Ramirez, David Hector Miranda, Karina Ramirez, and Robert Ramirez; and his great-grandchildren, Mila Ruiz, Manuel Santa Cruz Jr., Levi Brown, Maddox Ruiz, Mark Morris III and Rylee Rivera, due in April 2026. He is also survived by his older brother, Manuel Ramirez, and younger sisters, Norma Guerrero, and Sylvia Lujan, along with many nieces and nephews.
