

Henry C. Holguin was born May 12, 1946 and went to his heavenly home at the age of 77. He was born in Lordsburg, New Mexico to Henry ‘Sonny’ Holguin, Sr. and Leonila “Lila” Corral Holguin. He was one of 16 children and grew up as the oldest boy and his family lovingly referred to him as ‘Boy” throughout his lifetime.
Henry had a fierce sense of social justice and earned a degree in Criminology at the University of Albuquerque. He later received a second Bachelor’s degree in Education. He worked in pretrial services, probation and parole, and became the Director of Community Corrections in Las Cruces, New Mexico. He later taught middle school and high school students for the remainder of his career. Henry was skilled in many diverse areas and held different jobs throughout his lifetime, always seeking knowledge and developing new abilities. He found value in all work.
His personal life consisted of varied interests. He was athletic, loved playing basketball and golf, and he played sports in high school. He coached middle school baseball and soccer. He especially enjoyed coaching his own son’s soccer and basketball teams. At home he was frequently found gardening or putting his mechanical skills to good use, and didn’t shy away from domestic chores. He was a voracious reader and also was known to make a mean batch of chili. But what Henry will best be remembered for was his quick and witty humor. He made a lot of people laugh in his lifetime.
Henry is survived by his sons Henry (Megan) and Javi Holguin and his daughter Michelle Holguin. He was preceded in death by his eldest son, Reyes Holguin (Pam). He was further blessed by his three granddaughters Reyna Holguin Awale (Jad), Marissa Holguin Bird (Robert), Mara Rose Holguin, two great granddaughters., Zara and Zoe, siblings Ramona (Raul), Bobby (Nancy), Diane (Jorge), Felix (Debbie), Gina (Sammy), Lucy (Dave, deceased), Corrine (Davy), David ((Veronica), Veronica (Joey), Lila (David), plus 4 siblings who preceded him in death (Irene, Georgie, Ray, Rudy), and numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom he treasured. Henry will be greatly missed.
Services for Henry will be held August 12, 2023 at Our Lady Queen of All Saints Parish (2915 E. 36th Street, Tucson, Az) at 10:00 am, with a rosary preceding the 11:00 am Mariachi Mass. A gathering for family and friends will follow the mass in the hall next door to the church.
