

Janice is further preceded in passing by her husband of 40 years, John R. Johnson. They are survived by their daughters Candace Lee Leininger (Joseph), Cinda Sue Freitag (Wade), and Cheryl Ann Wade (Neal).
Upon her passing, Janice was the matriarch of a large family, and is further survived by her grandchildren Kristen Beal, Sarah Keller, Ray Burch, Jennifer Koepke, Charity Lindholm, William Freitag, John Lewis, Martin Wade, James Wade, and Naomi Jacobson; her nieces Jessica, Karen, and Stephanie and nephew Tim; and 25 great-grandchildren, great-nieces, nephews, and many cousins.
Janice is further survived by her brother, Tom Old (Kathy), and her Aunt Kathleen Papenfus.
Janice began her long career of public service as a telephone operator, before becoming a loss prevention specialist, and finally a custodian of records and dispatcher for the University of Arizona PD prior to her retirement.
Janice is fondly remembered as being organized, and having an excellent sense of humor. She filled her days with a variety of eclectic hobbies, including silversmithing, breeding Great Danes, gardening, and cultivating a deep love of history, art, and native cultures. She was a member of the Masonic family, and dedicated time to the Order of the Eastern Star (Saguaro Chapter), the Order of the Amaranth (Tash Tonlik Court #10). She was very proud to have served as Grand Royal Matron of the Grand Court of Arizona, Order of the Amaranth in 2000. She was also a life member of the White Shrine of Jerusalem. She also belonged to Daughters of Nile and Ladies Oriental Shrine of North America.
Those who had the honor to know Janice in her life will keep her memory cherished in their hearts. Her loss is deeply felt by her family, friends, and loved ones, and she will be dearly missed.
The viewing for Janice will be from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM Saturday, April 15, 2023 with the funeral service for Janice will be held from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Funeraria del Angel South Lawn, 5401 South Park Ave, Tucson, AZ 85706.
There will be a reception immediately following the funeral all are invited to until 3:30.
