

model Godfather, José Jesús "Jesse" María Rentería, II. He entered eternal rest on November
26, 2021, after a valiant battle with several chronic illnesses. He passed away peacefully at
home. He was born on January 24, 1954, in Los Angeles, CA, and Baptized at the historic Our
Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church at Olvera Street. He was a descendant of Converso
founding families of Monterrey, NL, Mexico and surrounding villas, and pre-statehood Texas. He
graduated from St. Genevieve Catholic High School in Panorama City, CA. He moved to
Tucson in the early 1970s and relocated to San Diego, CA, in the early 1980s where he worked
at Mission Bay as a park ranger for 15 years. In 2004, he returned to Tucson to provide security
services for the Arizona Inn until his retirement. Jesse treasured the memory of working for the
Arizona Inn. He had the pleasure of meeting many notable entertainers and politicians through
the years. He especially enjoyed meeting the proprietress of the Arizona Inn, Mrs. Patty Doar,
U.S. Rep. Gabby Giffords, and U.S. Sen. Ted Kennedy. Moreover, Jesse enjoyed domestic and
foreign travel with family. His most memorable road trips were those that traversed the iconic
U.S. Hwy 101 from its southern terminus to its northern terminus.
Jesse was a resident of El Mercado District in the historic downtown Menlo Park Neighborhood
in Tucson, AZ.
He is predeceased by his wife, Norma Beatríz Rentería, whom he was married to for 28 years
prior to her passing in 2004. He is also predeceased by his parents, José Jesús María
Rentería, I, and Guadalupe García Rentería; and grandparents, Gilberto Rentería and Josefa
Espericueta Rentería, and Antonio García and Teodora Olivárez García; aunts, Dominga
Rentería, María Cleofas Rentería, Berta Rentería González, Elisa Rentería, Enriqueta Rentería,
Petra García Sáenz, Armandina García Córtez, Alicia García Casas; uncles, Raúl Rentería,
Trinidad García, Antonio García, Bernardo García; first cousins, Jaime González and Hernán
Córtez. His surviving family members include his sisters, Josefa Rentería, Carmen Rentería,
Dolores Rentería, María E. Rentería-Villa (José), Gloria Rentería Griffith (Richard); and
brothers, Gilbert Rentería and Pablo Rentería. He is also survived by his nieces, Cristina E.
Rentería, Guadalupe G. Rentería, Rebecca R. Rentería, Rachel N. Rentería, Rosalinda M.
Rentería, and Lisa E. Doyle Wood; and nephews, José J.M. Rentería, III, Jesús A. Rentería,
Joseph J. Doyle, and Peter A. Doyle; and other extended family members and friends.
Due to the current pandemic, requiem mass and committal service will be private. His final
resting place will be at Holy Hope Catholic Cemetery, St. John section at the Altar of St.
Thomas, Tucson, AZ.
