Jim Sullivan, 78, of Tucson, Arizona went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 14, 2013. A true Arizona native he was born in Casa Grande, on December 2, 1934. He attended Tucson High and graduated in 1953. He married the girl next door, Arlene Kolb in January of 1955. In his career as a Road Construction Superintendent, he was well known for aggregate material development and plant design. He was respected by many in his field and was often consulted for his expertise. A man of many talents that could build or “fix” anything, he designed and built his own house brick by brick and helped family/neighborhood teens repair and rebuild car engines. Jim’s nature was gentle and kind; he was respected and admired by all that knew him. He always answered with a witty comment and big smile and continued to have a sense of humor during his 2 ½ year battle with cancer. He loved his 3 children, 2 sons and a daughter and enjoyed taking them camping, fishing and hunting to enjoy God’s country. He was an avid outdoorsman and an outstanding marksman. There were always hunting stories being told during family gatherings that lit up his face and entertained all those listening. The family referred to him as the “bionic man” – having 2 major back surgeries, shoulder surgeries, both knees replaced, hip replacement, carpal tunnel surgery and cancer. Even after all these surgeries it did stop or slow down this strong, gentle man from living his life.
He was a beloved and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who enjoyed being surrounded by his family and spending time outdoors. A man of faith, he is survived by his lovely wife of 58 yrs., Arlene, sons, Randall, David (Juliann), daughter Laurel (Mike) grandchildren Melinda (Scott), Brandon (Daniella), Sydni, Casandra (Eric) and 2 great grandchildren, and brother Larry (Carolyn).
Preceded in death by his parents, Jack & Annabelle, sister Ruby, younger brother Jack and grandsons Tyler and Justin Sullivan.
Jim was loved so much and will forever be engraved in our hearts.
2 Corinthians 4:16-18 Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.
John 14:27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.
Numbers 6:24-26 The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace
