Born in Kansas City, Missouri, Judi was the youngest child of Walter and Rosa Moore. She later moved to Tucson to be closer to her sister Barbara—a move that led to the next beautiful chapter of her life. It was there she met her first husband, Frank Kalil, with whom she had three children. During that time, she volunteered at St. Cyril’s as the first P.A.L. and also at the Tucson Museum of Art.
Judi’s love for the performing arts was lifelong and infectious. An avid theatergoer and classic film enthusiast, she knew the words to every show tune and was always ready to sing along. Her deep appreciation for the stage found a special home in her volunteer work with the University of Arizona Theatre Foundation, where she proudly served as the most enthusiastic member of the audience. A gifted visual artist as well, Judi found joy in sketching and painting, bringing beauty into the world in every form she touched.
Her legacy of joy, music, and love lives on in all who knew her. Judi had a lifelong love of dogs and was rarely without one by her side. It takes an understanding of laughter, and more importantly, being able to laugh at yourself to be funny—and Judi’s sense of humor was fantastic.
Her warm, fun-loving spirit, kindness, and grace left a lasting impression on everyone she met. Even in her later years living with dementia, Judi remained joyful, present, and full of gratitude. She taught her family and friends to savor the moment and to cherish the simple, everyday gifts of life.
Judi’s final years were lovingly supported by the caregivers at Hacienda de Luna, a home that became a haven of friendship and compassion. Her family is deeply grateful for the tenderness shown to her there.
She is survived by her three children: Jo (Todd Hartman), Fred Kalil (Tina Martin), and Karen (Kelly Callan); thirteen grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Jack Moore; her husband, Alf Taylor; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A memorial gathering will take place at East Lawn Palms Mortuary. For additional information, kindly reach out to Jo, Fred, or Karen.
