Lillian Elizabeth Berg-Mayer, age 95, of Phoenix, Arizona passed away on Saturday June 30, 2018. Lillian was born February 14, 1923.

Lillian Berg-Mayer was a loving mom who raised two sons instilling is us the idea that truth, honesty and treating people with respect and dignity was paramount. She had a tough life loosing my younger brother at 18 months, my brother years later and 2 husbands. She worked hard to provide for my brother and I, it was only later in my life when I had my own kids did I grow to understand just how difficult it must have been for her. She was a cowgirl, road bulls with her brothers and taught me how to throw a baseball and a football. Her dedication to God saw her through the tough times and the fear of God she instilled in me (and the fear of her) kept me on the straight and narrow because being a latchkey kid I could have turned out more damaged then I did. My mom was at home on the back of a horse or a Harley crisscrossing the country on long rides collecting rally pins and memories. I had a love hate relationship with my mom….mostly because I hated that she was right so much. She supported me even if she did not understand exactly why I chose to do some of the things I did. It was a challenge for her when I moved in with my girlfriend and the stories I could tell you about getting my ear priced could fill volumes. My mom always had my back and even up until she could no longer comprehend reality she questioned my motives and made sure I was doing the right thing. My mom was not the easiest person to get along with. She was very opinionated and was motivated by the scripture. She lived in a world of black and white with little gray in-between. She expected honesty and gave unconditional love. This time last year Alzheimer’s set the course for her demise. Today she decided it was time and left us in a peaceful and respectful way. Words fail me in describing what a powerful women she was, in a time when women did not have much power she found a way to life her life in a way that set the bar for me to strive for. Her grandkids Orion, Phillip, Allison and Miles loved her very much. God’s speed Mom….safe travels.

She once helped us make home made ice cream. The best ice cream I ever tasted. Peach as I recall. Made a life long addict out of me.

Nothing is tougher than losing family. It hurts deep no matter what the circumstance. Our thoughts to Kieth and all of the grandkids from a road far far away. Adelaide and Richard
