Martha Jane Amend

After nearly 4 years of 1st downs gained against acute myeloid leukemia, Martha (Marty) Amend passed peacefully at home Thursday evening, 12/19/24. One of three children born to Robert and Charity Stevenson, Marty graduated from Whitewater High School, then attended the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. After earning her degree in elementary education, she married the love of her life, Laurence (Larry) Amend. She gave birth to Robert (Bob) in 1963 and to Michael (Mike) in 1966. Her sons could not have asked for a more caring and devoted mother. Marty taught various grades of elementary school for over 30 years, but mostly kindergarten through third grade at Weston Elementary School in Weston, WI. She took great pride in teaching so many children how to read and write, to add and subtract, and to be life-long learners. Marty enjoyed camping, fishing, and hiking; restoring and refinishing antiques; playing golf with her family and friends; cheering on the Badgers, Packers, Bucks and Brewers; and doting on her three beloved grandchildren, Allegra, Dominic, and Jessica.

Among those Marty leaves behind to cherish her memory are sons Robert (Deana) Amend of Tucson, AZ and Michael (Roxane) Amend of Erie, CO; grandchildren Allegra Amend of Los Angeles, CA, Dominic Amend of Tempe, AZ, and Jessica Amend of Erie, CO; brother Jim (Jerri) Stevenson of Whitewater, WI; step-sister Valary Banker of Whitewater, WI; sister-in-law Jan (Bob) Stevenson of Whitewater, WI; sister-in-law Barbara (Gary) Schroeder of Dubuque, IA; sister-in-law Patti (John) Amend of Tucson, AZ; cousin Dick (Claudia) Russell of Boulder Junction, WI; and many nieces, nephews, and countless close friends in Wisconsin, Arizona, and elsewhere.

Marty was preceded in death by her husband Larry Amend; parents Robert and Charity Stevenson and step-father Claude Voyles; parents-in-law William and Anna Amend; brother Robert Stevenson; sisters-in-law Leanne Stevenson, Anna Mary Tice, Regina Arndt, Cecelia Coyle, Aileen Pynnonen, and Rita Bescup; and brothers-in-law Kenneth Amend, Bernard Joseph Amend, Norbert Amend, and John Amend.

Celebrations of Life will be held in Tucson, AZ and Whitewater, WI at later dates.
