Maureen was born in Portland, Maine, on May 17, 1959, to Ronald and Ellen Stultz. At the age of 16, she moved with her family to Tucson, where she later attended the University of Arizona. It was there she met her college sweetheart, James King, whom she married in 1982.
Though she cherished her childhood by the ocean in Maine, Maureen’s heart belonged to the Arizona desert. She found joy in watching the brilliant sunsets and walking through Saguaro National Park, always with her camera in hand to capture the beauty of rainbows, cactus blooms, and desert sunsets.
Maureen lived a life full of creativity and passion. She loved gardening, photography, travel, and all forms of arts and crafts. Her green thumb was evident in the lush plants and flowers she nurtured, and her yard was always alive with birds visiting her feeders. Whether working on a project around the house or adding her creative touch to something new, Maureen approached everything with care and imagination.
Above all, Maureen was the heart and rock of our family. She gave her love freely and unconditionally, always putting others before herself. Her presence brought comfort and security, and her gift for connection wove together bonds that endured across time and distance. She was our constant source of strength.
Maureen is survived by her devoted husband of 43 years, James; their children, Ellen and Matthew; her father, Ronald; her sisters, Mary, Christine, Kathleen, and Bridget, and their families; as well as many close friends and loved ones in Arizona and beyond. She was preceded in death by her mother, Ellen Bickford Stultz.
Maureen faced life’s challenges with quiet strength and grace, never allowing difficulty to overshadow her love for others. Those who knew Maureen will remember her vibrant spirit, her boundless love for her family, and her gift for finding beauty in everyday life. Her presence will be deeply missed, but her light will continue to shine through the memories she created.
A celebration of Maureen’s life will be held on Monday, November 24, at 10:30 a.m. at East Lawn Palms Mortuary in Tucson, Arizona. Following the service, the family will host a reception at their home. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations in her honor be made to TMC Hospice Peppi’s House: https://www.tmchospice.com/en/donate-tmchospice
