

Noel Douglas Addy was born to Hattie Bell Addy and Isaiah S. Addy on July 24, 1919 in Maricopa County, Arizona. A lifelong Arizonan he died on April 24, 2016 in Tucson. He grew up in Arizona with a few stops along the way in Texas and Oklahoma. He was a star of the football team at Chandler High School, graduated from high school in 1940 and was named to the Chandler High Hall of Fame in 2010. Noel was among the many from Chandler who were mobilized into the military September 16, 1940, which began a military career of 31 years and took him many places to do many things. He was a combat glider pilot during World War II, a hazardous assignment; he was one of the first glider pilots to fly into the Normandy region on D-Day and participated in four of the European invasions during the war. He received numerous commendations and medals to include several Bronze Star medals. Various transfers and fields of service led him back to Arizona to Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in Tucson, where he made a permanent home for his family in 1962. He was active with the Titan Missile project for eight years and had a tour of duty in Vietnam before retiring from the U.S. Air Force, April 1, 1971. Noel was married to Elsie Pearl Mathews, aka Pat, on Valentine’s Day 1943 and added to the family a daughter Patricia, married to Larry Kline, now deceased, a son Noel Douglas Addy, Jr. and wife Shelley Matthews, and a son Michael Addy and wife Katherine Boliek. Tricia and Larry have two sons Doug and David. Noel Jr. and Shelley have two sons Noel III and Matthew. Mike and Kay have two sons and two daughters Sarah, Scott, David and Bethany. Along the way, Noel made many wonderful friends and would be so proud of the many loving relatives and friends who have come to celebrate his life today.
