Bob was a nuclear engineer in the U.S. Navy where he served as a Lieutenant Commander. From there he was recruited into the U.S. Government for his expertise in fuel supplies, and was significant in establishing the Strategic Oil Reserve during the Oil Embargo. After moving to Tucson, he founded a hardscape company, Backyard Boulders, enriching the landscaping of many Tucson residences.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Elizabeth “Liz” Davies. Having first met in high school, they dated through college until they married in 1960. Throughout their married life, they traveled extensively, visiting countries all over the world. He leaves behind two children - Gretchen Davies Bailey (Joe Bailey) and Blaze Davies (Alicia Hill), four grandchildren - Adriana Bailey, Ted Bailey, Kyle Davies, and Rowan Davies Hilligas, and three great grandchildren - Lilah, Silas and Cooper Hilligas.
He will be greatly missed by all of those who loved and respected him. A celebration of Bob’s life is planned for next month.
