

Born a twin on 11/11/1946, Bob and his brother Richard were the sons of Mercy Canalez and Juan Villegas Maldonado. He was educated in Tucson and graduated from Tucson high school. Not a scholar, he was known to tell people that he “considered himself the class of 64, 65, 66, and 67”, but he got the job done!
A dedicated Marine, he served in Vietnam 1967 - 68 (Tet Offensive at Hue City) and 1971-72 (Combined Action Platoon). Robert had 3 purple hearts among many other commendations.
A 29-year employee of Southwest Gas, he worked at a Service Tech and loved his job. He retired early due to Agent Orange Illness.
Robert was very active with NAM JAM for many years and he specifically asked that "Never Forget" and "Thank a Vet" were inserted in his obituary.
Survived by his mother,Mercy Canalez, loving wife Valery, Sons Mario and Damon (Erika), and close step-children, Steve Stamper (Sherri), Jennifer Mareks (John), Shannon Van Campen and Marnel Martinez (Hector),Sister’s-in-law Vicki Maldonado and Tammy Maldonado. Robert is also survived by his much-loved second family; The Rueda’s.
Preceded in death by his father Juan,Twin Richard,"little brother" John Maldonado, special cousin Danny and beloved Uncle Danny Rueda, who taught him the importance of hard work and service to country.
