Robert Joseph Schmid was born on July 17, 1939 in Chicago, Illinois. His parents Anna and Joseph Schmid had come from Germany in the 1920’s. They moved to Villa Park and Bob attended St. Alexander in Villa Park and graduated from York High School in Elmhurst. He majored in English and minored in German at NIU in DeKalb, Illinois where he met his wife Erna Baehr.
After graduating in 1961, he taught English and German at Tinley Park High School and Oak Forest High School from 1961 to 1994.
When Bob retired he spent the summers in Glenn, MI and winters in Tucson, AZ. He volunteered at the Community Action House in Holland and St. Mary’s Hospital in Tucson.
He leaves behind his wife Erna, his son Peter and daughter Kathryn, five grandchildren – Joseph, Jacob, Grace, Anna, Bekah and a great-grandson Miles.
