Bob was born on August 20, 1936, in Maynard, Ohio, to James and Anna Shrieve. In 1941,his family moved to San Diego, California, where he was raised and later graduated from Kearny High School in 1954. He attended Brigham Young University for one semester before returning to San Diego, where he worked in construction.
In 1959, Bob proudly joined the United States Marine Corps. He distinguished himself early, graduating from boot camp as one of only two recruits promoted. He served in the active reserves as a tank commander until February 1965, exemplifying leadership, discipline, and dedication to his country—qualities that remained evident throughout his life.
In 1963, Bob began his professional career with San Diego Gas & Electric, working in customer accounting. In 1972, he relocated with his family to Tucson, Arizona, where he continued his career with Tucson Gas & Electric. He later retired from Tucson Electric Power in 1996, having served as head of the Billing Department. His long and steady career reflected his strong work ethic, reliability, and pride in doing a job well.
In his younger years, Bob enjoyed playing fast-pitch softball and coaching a Pony League team in San Diego, experiences he valued greatly. He later learned to play tennis and golf—activities that almost always ended with a beer afterward. Bob was an avid supporter of the San Diego Padres and the Chargers, and he never passed up a good joke, delighting those around him with his subtle sense of humor. He especially enjoyed attending USS Gambier Bay reunions that his wife helped plan for World War II veterans, where he treasured the camaraderie, shared stories, and time spent with friends. Bob also loved to read, though this became increasingly difficult in later years due to declining eyesight.
Bob is survived by his wife, Marlene, with whom he shared 45 years together and 37 years of marriage; his daughter, Bobbie Jo Nickles (Ronnie); his grandson, Austin Miros (Alexandria);
and his great-granddaughter, Violet. He is also survived by his brother, Steven Shrieve; his stepchildren, Diane Palmer (Mike) and Richard Clark (Kandi); four step-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren; as well as his nieces, Janet Alves and Lisa Puccini, and his nephew, James Shrieve.
