He was raised in California, primarily Sunnyvale, where he graduated from Sunnyvale High School in 1972. As a young man, he had a passion for music, frequently attending concerts at the Filmore West and Winterland Ballroom. He worked in manufacturing his entire career, in various roles, but the bulk of it in Supply Chain Management, having earned the prestigious designation Certified in Planning and Inventory Management through APICS. After his wife passed in 2012, he carried with him a tremendously deeply felt grief. In 2019, he met a widow, Carole Siegel, and in each other they found much needed companionship. They moved from Riverside, CA to Tucson, AZ in the summer of 2025.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Virginia and JB Hanning, and his wife Yrene. He is survived by his son Nicholas, daughter in-law Kerry Hanning (Cottingham), grandchildren Wyatt and Quinn Hanning, his twin sister Ronda Garrido, and his partner Carole Siegel.
Ron always enjoyed watching baseball, memorizing stats, and was a lifelong SF Giants fan. He had a great affinity for creative endeavors, having once dreamed of being a writer, and was over the moon just watching an old movie while eating sour candy. Ron will be missed for his seemingly endless knowledge of cinema, his sense of humor, and his ability to make anyone feel welcome.
