

Sandra Gay Pancost of Tucson, Arizona, peacefully passed away on Friday morning May 28, 2021 at home at the age of 85. She was born to the late Harry Delos Ames and late Ora Gay Ames on March 7, 1936 in Ithaca, New York. She was an only child. Sandra with her parents moved to Tucson at an early age of eight due to her parents illness with TB. She married the late Jerry Lee Pancost in 1953. They were “high school” sweethearts. They were married for 63 years. Sandra attended and graduated from Tucson High School and went on to graduate from the University of Arizona with a B.A. in Education and later received a Masters degree as well. She is and was known for her positive attitude and strong will. She is survived by her three children: son Darwin D Pancost of Tucson; her twin daughters of Tucson, Pamela Gay Bravo (Tony), and Page Gay Done. She is also survived by six grandchildren; nine great grandchildren and her faithful companion “Max” a Rhodesian Ridgeback mix. Sandra taught second grade for thirty-three years in Tucson Unified School District. Her love of teaching was apparent through her antics of hands on activities. Her students loved her upbeat attitude and energy.
Her love of reading and her desire to learn never ending. She passed this unquenchable love on to her granddaughters, notably Cheyanna Leah Tullgren of Tucson. Sandra was most passionate in her love of animals giving donations to most all types of animal charities to help save them. She was a lifetime member of Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Kanab, Utah and our Humane Society of Tucson.
A private family service to honor her life will be held at East Lawn Palms Mortuary here in Tucson, Friday morning June 11, 2021. She will be laid to rest next to her husband, Jerry Lee Pancost.
